Special pit stops
A special pit stop is Stadslandgoed de Kemphaan in forestry park Almeerderhout. Here you can take a look at the Forestry Commission's visitor centre. On Saturday mornings, there is a farmers' market with delicious organic local produce fresh from the land. Be sure to stop at restaurant Loetje where you can enjoy the view over the Noorderplassen with a snack and a drink on the terrace. Then continue your route along the Lepelaarplassen. This nature reserve is a paradise for water and marsh birds such as the cormorant and reed warbler.
Oostvaardersplassen
Also visit the Oostvaardersplassen, the largest wetland nature reserve in the Netherlands and home to several wild animals. To do so, turn at junction 98 towards junction 97, 93, 71, 70 and continue the route. Stop at the Nature Experience Centre de Oostvaarders and spot the animals with the available binoculars.
