Round Oostrand large
You don't have to climb, ascend and descend in the Oostrand. You enjoy flat, tight landscapes. With the occasional nice headwind. Over dykes, along lakes, through forests and past fields. Entrepreneurs with ideas make the route a real experience. Visit a farm shop, the picking garden or a beer brewery along the way. Thirsty? You will also find restaurants along the route. (Just check the companies' websites for opening hours).
The start and end point of this route is at the Tower Grove. Nature reserve with natural playground with water pump and hut-building area available. You can also follow a scavenger hunt there.
Take your time and discover what became of the polder pioneers. When the land was reclaimed in 1957, this higher part of Dronten was the first to fall dry. Woods were planted on the seepage-rich and sandy edges and cattle breeding and mixed farms were established. Now, many of these farms have merged and/or specialised (larger dairy farms/potato farms/sprouts/organic farms, etc.).
But a number of entrepreneurs also saw an opportunity to start up a (tourist) side branch such as a cheese farm, beer brewery, farm shop, mini campsite or picking garden. You can visit these businesses during this cycle tour (check their websites) and of course there are plenty of terraces for a nice break.
You can split up or break up this route! Enjoy the varied landscape, make a trip to the ‘old’ country (Elburg is a very nice town), take the bike ferry across the Veluwemeer or explore the large-scale ‘Room for the River’ nature reserve near Kampen via the Reevesluis lock.
