Art Route Zeewolde

2 hour (7.7 km)

The unique polder landscape has captivated not only architects but also artists. One of the first artworks, realised in 1996, was ‘Sea Level’ by Richard Serra. The upper edge of Serra's concrete walls indicate the water level if there were no dykes. The walls themselves act as backdrops, constantly changing the view of the landscape.

The Zeewolde Art Route leads you past even more artworks in Zeewolde, both in the village and in Horsterwold. The route starts at the Toeristisch OverstapPunt (TOP) on the car park on the strandweg. • From this location, turn right (beach in the back) and after about 300 metres turn left (downhill path) onto Heermoes.
  • At the end begins Weteringplein. On the lawn is a sculpture by Carel Visser titled Salami.
  • Continue along the Weteringplein path, staying to the right of the water. This path turns into Weteringpad and keep following this path.
  • Almost at the end of the Weteringpad, you will come across the artwork Sea Level, by Richard Serra. This artist indicates the sea level with this artwork. The two walls cut into the slope of the Wetering landscape park.
  • Keep following the path straight ahead. In the pond is the pavilion De Verbeelding.
  • On the left just before the edge of the forest, in the open area (grass) you will find a white stone structure with a fresco. A watercolour painting on wet chalk painted dor the artist Jan van de Pavert
  • Return to the paved path and keep following the path, passing through a small tunnel.
  • At the end of the path ( t-junction) turn left and then immediately take the first road left (towards RCN Vakantiepark Zeewolde).
  • Then turn into the first road on the right (landmark on the right, Clubhouse of Jongeren 19NU, called de Groene Schuur).
  • Continue along this road and turn right before Nature Camp ‘De Banken’ and immediately turn right onto the mountain bike trail. Immediately to the right, among the conifers, looms a yellow structure and to its left a black version; The Remembered Self / The Forgotten Self by Ulf Rollof.
  • Follow this forest path (rejoins the paved path) and keep right, and follow this path to ANWB pole, turn left here. You are now walking towards the water again.
  • On the dike, turn left, back towards Zeewolde (landmark RCN Holiday Park Zeewolde).
  • On this part of the route you will find two more works of art (just before the Horsterveer). Outside the dike, on your right, you pass a round dike body with a fence. The sanctuary by herman de vries (by request artist written in lower case) where nature, nature can become nature. In other words, there is no nature maintenance here.
  • Inside, on the left, are the corten-steel columns by Evert Strobos.
  • Continue the path to the starting point, TOP Woldstrand.
