You will learn what all parts of the ship are called and what life on board must have been like. Follow the audio route, then you won't miss a thing and every room is explained.
The Batavia was built between 1985 and 1995. As a shipbuilder, Willem Vos wanted to recreate a historical ship. He also wanted to preserve the crafts, which are so important when building a ship, in this way. The choice fell on the Batavia, a ship about which much has already been written in the 17th century. But construction drawings of the Batavia do not exist. Willem Vos studied archives and historical ships. The Swedish ship the Vasa provided a lot of information on shipbuilding techniques from the 17th century.
The Batavia is part of Heritage Park Batavialand. You can buy a ticket at the museum for just The Batavia or in combination with the shipyard and the museum. You will play the audio tour when you arrive at the ship.
