You have a good chance of spotting a bearded reedling, bittern, water rail, pintail, great white egret or a cormorant from the De Grauwe Gans observation hut. Oh… and look out for beaver tracks! The path to the hut runs for approximately half a kilometre from where you will already spot all manner of wildlife. The hut offers views to the south, the west and the north.

By car follow the A6 (Amsterdam-Emmeloord) motorway and take exit number 10, direction Lelystad via Larserdreef. Turn left onto the Torenvalkweg and follow this until you reach the Knardijk dyke. Turn right onto the Knardijk dyke. The visitor centre lies on your left, beyond the railway viaduct. Continue on this road. After about one kilometre you’ll find an information board and a small parking area. It’s about a 500-metre walk from here to the De Grauwe Gans bird hide. The visitor centre is not easy to access by public transport, as the nearest bus stop is an hour’s walk away. You can hire a bike in Lelystad; from the train station it takes about 45 minutes to cycle here.
