Almeerderhout forms the largest forest in Almere. These lush green woods are home to goshawks, buzzards and deer. Almeerderhout is actually the collective noun for the Waterlandse Bos, the Cirkelbos and the Kathedralenbos – all woods in their own right with their own characteristics. The De Kemphaan country estate is located in the Waterlandse Bos, whilst the Cirkelbos is easily recognisable by the various types of tree circles, framed by avenues of beech. The Kathedralenbos was named after the 'The Green Cathedral' land artwork to be found there.
