Water sports are alive and well in Lelystad! Since 2020, there has been a new hotspot in Flevoland for small water sports. The 400-metre-long Bataviastrand is located directly on the east side of the Markermeer near Lelystad and is perfect for (kite)surfing, supping or canoeing.
Bataviastrand is characterised by its excellent location on the Markermeer with almost always favourable winds, a wide stretch of water and the absence of water plants. This beach is excellent for both beginners and advanced kite surfers.
This beach was constructed by Rijkswaterstaat on behalf of Flevoland province in response to a group of enthusiastic water sports enthusiasts united in Stichting Hoekipadijk.

This water sports beach is popular among water sports enthusiasts. Other visitors are of course also welcome. Please note that the Bataviastrand is equipped for water sports and does not monitor swimming water quality. Swimming is at your own risk.
Accessibility
Bataviastrand can be reached by car from the Markerwaarddijk. Parking is possible close to the beach. In summer it can get busy. Therefore, pay close attention to the current information from the province.
If you live nearby, come by bike.
The Province of Flevoland manages Bataviastrand and is responsible for keeping the beach safe and clean. In summer 2021, waste containers will be available on the beach as well as sanitary facilities. Visitors are asked to leave the beach clean by taking as much waste as possible with them.
