Fortress Island Pampus

Have you discovered Pampus Island yet? This fortress island belongs on everyone's bucket list! It is a lively, historic island that appeals to the imagination. For children there are treasure hunts (the favorite is the one with the blacklight lamp) and for all ages the history in the fort comes to life in two ‘experience’ routes.

In 'The Story of Pampus' this happens through beautiful projections and interesting games. Walk through time and you'll hear guns popping, soldiers waking up in bunk beds, and listening to the stories of the floating head (!)

The other route is about 'The Secret Weapon of Amsterdam'. What this exactly is you will discover when you step in Pampus' hot air balloon. It lets you fly virtually over the Defence Line Of Amsterdam. Look out over this UNESCO World Heritage Site, feel the wind through your hair and enjoy this brand new attraction!

In addition to following the ‘experience’ routes, you can also wander through the rest of the fort. Feel free to discover the fort on your own, but also take the opportunity to join a guide for a tour. There are so many great stories hidden in the fort!

There is also plenty to see and do outside. From the roof you have a spectacular panorama that stretches for miles and in the dry moat around the fort there’s an exhibition with eye-catching blow-up aerial photos of all the forts of the Defence Line of Amsterdam and of the New Dutch Water Line.

In addition to gaining all kinds of impressions and getting a breath of fresh air during a walk around the island, you can of course also enjoy some delicacies indoors or out in the sunshine on one of the cafe/restaurant’s terraces. During the school summer holidays and out-of-season this restaurant is also sometimes open in the evening and can be reserved for Summer Light or Winter Light. The season runs from April to October. The fortress island is closed on Mondays.

Ready for Pampus? Book online tickets for the ferry from Almere Marina Muiderzand, Muiden or Amsterdam. (Of course free with your own boat. In that case, entrance fees will only be requested when you enter the museum section on the island; the pavilion and the terraces are freely accessible.)

Opening times

  • "Winter light in one sentence? A surprising evening on the unique island of Pampus, where you can enjoy beautiful seasonal dishes in both the historic fortress and the cozy pavilion."

Fort Island Pampus is open from April to October. Out of season Pampus is sometimes open in the evenings for the dinner experience Winter Light. On November 29 the boat sails in the evening from Almere Marina Muiderzand to the fortress island in front of restaurant Winterlicht. There are also other evenings in November and December that the restaurant is open, but then they sail from Amsterdam.

Prices

  • Price explanation: Prices vary and depend, among other things, on age and, for example, the possession of a museum card or friends' card. For up-to-date price information, visit the Pampus website.

An evening Winter Light costs € 72.50 per person. In addition to the crossing, the culinary tour through the fort, the main course and the dessert, the package price also includes a contribution intended to preserve the historical heritage. Drinks are for your own account and are settled at the end of the evening.
