Camp on a raft!
Spend the night on the water on the special camping raft. Floating while camping, what an indulgence for a water lover. At De Veenkuil camping, you can get close to the lapping water. A raft is ready and waiting for your tent. Once you are on the raft, the accompanying boat can take you to and from the shore. How romantic is that? Imagine the crickets in the background and start relaxing. That is, if the summer weather plays along. Take along your fishing rod. The raft has a small pit for a campfire or for a barbecue.
Camping on the Boomkroonplateau 6 m up!
This treetop platform has been constructed 6 m up between five huge beech trees on the natural camping ground De Veenkuil. The platform is in the shape of a diamond, made of sturdy larch wood from trees that grew in the Kuinderbos and were sawn into beams and planks, is about 25 m2 in size and hangs on strong chains from the five huge beeches. A wooden spiral staircase brings visitors onto the platform. There is a balustrade around the edges for safety with hooks inserted in between to which the guy ropes can be attached. There is a wood burner on the platform for a cosy evening around the campfire. Last winter several trees were chopped down, permitting a stunning view from the platform over the Kuinderplas.
A maximum of 4 people can camp on the platform at the same time. Reserve your stay on the treetop platform by sending an e-mail to h.bergman@staatsbosbeheer.nl.
In the Kuinderbos there are many varieties of plants, fungi and nesting birds. As a camper you have access to the deer-viewing hide. And only campers are allowed to swim and fish in the reserved parts of the Kuinderplas. If you would like to sail, then borrow the forester’s boat. Or take a trip to De Weerribben, De Rottige Meenthe or the IJsselmeer nature reserves.
In 2013, it was the 50th anniversary of the opening of the nature camping ground De Veenkuil. A special aspect of this place is that you can go swimming in the water right on the camping ground. Children never get bored here. Even if they have had enough of playing in the water, there are all kinds of playgrounds around. There is a large grassy field with trees in the middle, and a number of smaller fields. If you have only a tent, then you can have a spot with a view of the Kuinderplas. You can also reserve the field for groups and three genuine tipis.
