Urk harbour is close to the old centre of the fishing town, with its small streets, alleys and fishermen's houses.
In recent years, the necessary facilities have been installed to make a stay in and around the harbour even more pleasant. These include expansion of the catering facilities, a new accommodation for Tourist Information with Tourist Transfer Point and new sanitary facilities. Upstairs, the port area has a large, free parking area for cars and about 20 camper vans.
During the summer months, the port area is bustling with activities. These include a busy and publicly accessible fish auction, where you can see for yourself the fish just unloaded and witness it being auctioned on the spot. The port is a great starting point to further explore the characteristic fishing village.
