Back to the old days
In a beautiful location in Natuurpark Lelystad is a small village called Swifterkamp. The village, currently consisting of two farms, a hunter-gatherer hut and three outbuildings, breathes the atmosphere of days gone by. Every now and then, it is inhabited by groups of adults and children who, for a short or longer time, want to get a taste of what it would be like to live in the New Stone Age; the time when hunter-gatherers gradually switched to farming (in Central Netherlands from about 6300 years ago).
Opening hours
Swifterkamp consists of 2 parts, a Mesolithic (hunter-gatherers) part and a Neolithic (first farmers) part.
The Mesolithic section can be visited daily.
The Neolithic part is open on Wednesdays and Sundays from 11am to 4pm. This depends on the availability of volunteers. Entry is free.
