Wellerwaard is a relatively new recreation and nature reserve in the Noordoostpolder. Take a walk in nature with your dog, go swimming or play on the beach in Flevoland.

Wellerwaard was designed on the drawing board – just like the rest of the Noordoostpolder. At the time, considerable thought was given to the design of the Noordoostpolder: the villages with their facilities, schools and churches; the roads, waterways and paths, but especially an optimal arrangement for agriculture. Recreation was less important. Now, many years later, the need for recreational possibilities has increased. Walking, cycling, swimming, horse riding and so much more, there was a wish to have it all.

And partly thanks to the province of Flevoland and Europe the district was given the opportunity to do something with this. Since 2010 a lot of work has been devoted to creating a recreation area that suits the Noordoostpolder, its inhabitants and visitors. It’s a region that joins together a golf course, the Casteleynsplas lake and the Burchttocht region to offer something for everyone. Wellerwaard is the place to relax and enjoy and play sports to your heart’s content. With Wellerwaard in the centre of the Noordoostpolder, the polder has gained a great recreation area. A place of and for inhabitants and visitors, ready to be used!
