Built in 1844, the lighthouse on Urk is 18.5 metres high and offers views of three provinces on clear days. Behind the lighthouse lies an anchor from 1615, which probably came from Michiel de Ruyter's fleet. Fun fact: this beacon at night is the only one in the Netherlands where the light turns anticlockwise.
The lighthouse is open from 11am to 5pm during all school holidays.
The lighthouse is also open during Urk in Wintersferen, Urkerdag, the Easter and Whitsun weekends. Outside these times, the lighthouse can be visited by appointment by contacting us by email or phone: 06-46195063/ 06-40606454, or by ringing the bell at the entrance door. In the latter case, we can grant immediate access when convenient. On Sundays, the lighthouse is closed.
