About the creator: Antony Gormley

Crouching man balances on the border of land and water. Antony Gormley, known among other things for ‘Angel of the North’, one of the best-known works of art in the UK, became fascinated by the malleability of the new polder. For this reason, he drew inspiration for the gigantic artwork Exposure from the virgin landscape. Driving through the polder, he discovered a landscape with a rhythm of straight lines of canals, fields and windmills. He then incorporated the high-voltage pylons, which lie like a nervous system in Flevoland, into Exposure.

Even from afar, the artwork can be recognised as a transparent human form. The closer you get, the more abstract and impressive this complex piece of engineering becomes. Gormley often takes the human form as his starting point. He usually uses his own body as an example.
