Together with Vissering Pumping Station on Urk, Buma Pumping Station in the Northeast Polder pumps away excess water from the 39,000-strong western part of the Northeast Polder.
Buma pumping station was commissioned on 7 January 1941. On 9 September 1942, the Northeast Polder fell dry. The pumping stations pumped about 1,500 million m3 of water out of the polder, of which about 1,000 million m3 by Buma Pumping Station. Buma pumping station is named after Mr A. Buma. He devised an (unimplemented) plan to dike and reclaim the Zuiderzee and Waddenzee. He was co-founder of the Zuiderzee Association.
