Actually, the Kadoeler floodgate near Kraggenburg is not a lock as is usually meant. This is because this lock protects the land bordering Kadoelermeer and Zwartemeer from flooding in case of high water levels in those lakes. The Kadoeler floodgate has large gates that are placed in the water at high tide. The navigation passage is then closed. At normal water levels, however, you can simply sail your boat through the Kadoeler floodgate.
